Rickmansworth Bowls club is a fun, friendly and social club. We pride ourselves on welcoming bowlers of all abilities.
We are a very active club with social roll-ups on Mondays & Thursdays, Club friendly fixtures at the weekend, Internal competitions and many of our members take part in the Watford & District competitions as well as county competitions.
Our club house is the social buzz of the club and we host coffee & cake mornings to raise money for the club and other charities.
Whether you are looking to play competitive bowls, be more active or just to socialise our bowls club will welcome you and make you feel part of the family.
I hope you are all enjoying the bowls on the TV, there have been some great games to watch and plenty to learn. Most importantly it is lovely to see they can make just as bad shots like us!
Firstly, apologies for the delay in updating the website, it has been a very busy period. All club competitions have been updated as well so please take a look.
I will start with the Summer drive (fun afternoon) which was a roaring success (just like the Lionesses). We had sixteen members turn out for a fun afternoon of bowling, with each of the four rinks containing a bowling challenge.
Rink 1 was to bowl at a target to score points.
Rink 2 was bowling at a goal where to score you had to get your woods in the goal and also try to hit the spider in the goal to score.
Rink 3 was drawing to the fixed jack, without moving the jack.
Rink 4 was bowling to a jack. The nearest scored 4 points then 3 , 2 and 1 for the fourth wood.
At the end we all had refreshments after everyone had enjoyed the challenges.
A quick message from the club captain Roger Bishop "I would like to thank Margaret, Denise and Lesley for supplying the wonderful refreshments.
I would also like to thank everyone for there donations to the charity we are supporting this season we raised over £ 175 towards the Essex and Herts air ambulance. And finally, I would like to thank everyone who enjoyed the afternoons bowling including the people who came to watch.
The match against Radlett at home on the 23rd July. We had 5 triple matches where we won the match by 86 to Radletts 74.
Well done to everyone who bowled and all enjoyed the afternoon match.
The toprink of the afternoon was Tony Streeter (Lead), Janet Ellis (2) and Mick Eaton (Skip) well done.
27th July we played a match at Redbourn on an artificial surface which they bowl on all year round. We all found it very challenging, but battled through and ultimately we lost by 106 to Our 38.
I think this is a result we may need to forget. Roger would to congratulate our two juniors Hayden and Jake Bishop for playing a great game! Well done.
Lastly, a big shout out to our men's Vets team who are currently top of division 1 and as they pass the halfway stage of the season they look to continue this great run of form!
